The Cookie Jar Stall

Imagine my surprise and joy when I saw The Cookie Jar had a stall at the Thursday Canmore Farmer's Market! Laurie Falconer the owner was there and was very kind and knowledgeable about a celiac's needs being a celiac herself.

The Cookie Jar is a 100% gluten-free bakery based in Calgary Alberta. If you want to visit their main store, they are located at 128, 28th Street SE Calgary. Check out their website to see what other gluten-free products they offer.

The Cookie Jar Haul

On this shopping trip, I bought some butter tarts, pecan tarts, cheese buns, chocolate chip cookies and a small tourtiere. Spent $51.50 Canadian.

gluten-free butter tarts

The butter tarts were sublime! The gluten-free crust was flakey and buttery and the raison butter tart filling was so delicious, just the right runny, slightly sweet consistency and the amount of raisons was perfect for me. The pecan tarts were very good too. Lots of pecans.

Just look at that lovely, oozy filling!

gluten-free chocolate chip cookies

The Cookie Jar's gluten-free chocolate chips are really good. Very large, for me just the perfect balance of crunch and chewiness. I would buy them again as a treat.

gluten-free tourtiere

I bought a small tourtiere. Here is it prior to baking in the oven.

Here is the tourtiere after baking. This one product I was disappointed with. The flavour is good. But, for me the ratio of crust to filling was not great. I wanted more filling. I do find that with gluten-free pastry, it can be so filling and overwhelms the filling in pies. The crust was tasty, but I found it too thick. The filling was what I expect for a tourtiere. You definetly need gravy with this pie.

I also tried these gluten-free keto cheese biscuits.

Here is what they look like out of the package.

I heated them up in the microwave. They had a nice soft texture. The flavour was good. Nice and cheesy. But, a little on the salty side.

Would I go back? Yes I will. As with all gluten-free products, prices are high compared to the same gluten product. That being said, I will buy the occasional treat. I need to check out their main store in Calgary.
