Homemade Gluten-Free Advent Calendar!

Are you in a panic because December 1st has crept up on you? Struggling to find a gluten-free advent calendar in your area? Why not make your own? Not only will your young children appreciate the effort, but you'll also have full control over the treats included in each day's surprise.

Why Make Your Own Advent Calendar?

Creating a personalized advent calendar is a fun and meaningful way to celebrate the holiday season. Homemade advent calendars:

  • Allow you to choose treats or gifts that suit your family's dietary needs and preferences, such as gluten-free.
  • Show your loved ones that you care by putting in the time and effort.
  • Could be a creative and engaging activity for the whole family.

How to Create a Homemade Advent Calendar

There are many ways to design your own advent calendar, depending on the time and resources you have. You can start with a ready-made base or craft one from scratch. Here are some ideas:

Ready-Made Calendars

Purchase a pre-made advent calendar like a wooden one with small boxes or a cloth one with pockets that can be filled with your chosen gluten-free goodies. These are widely available online and in stores.

DIY Calendars

If you prefer to create your Own calendar, here are a few options:

  1. Small Bags or Envelopes: Use small bags or envelopes numbered 1 through 24. Decorate them with stickers, drawings, or Christmas-themed embellishments. Hang them on a small tree, branch, or corkboard for a festive display. Or place on a shelf.

  2. Wrapped Treats: Wrap each treat in holiday-themed paper, write the numbers on them, and hang them up on a tree or branch. Alternatively you could arrange them on a shelf. This is a simple and cost-effective method that looks charming.

  3. Mini Muffin Tin Advent Calendar:
    • Take a 24-cup mini muffin tin and place a treat in each cup.
    • Cover the tin with festive wrapping paper, securing it at the back with tape.
    • Cut out 24 circles from paper or use Christmas gift tags, numbering them 1 through 24.
    • Lightly press the paper over the muffin cups in order to find where the muffin spaces are, and tape the numbers in place. You can arrange the numbers in order or scatter them randomly.
    • Each day, your child can locate the number, gently break the paper which makes a satisfying "popping sound", and retrieve their treat.
